Holidays in Baska Voda - how to get there and where to stay, beaches and prices
Baska Voda, one of the coziest towns on the Riviera of Makarska, is located 60 km from Split, 10 km from Makarska and 75 km from the airport. Not so many years ago it used to be a small fishing village; today it has become one of the most popular Croatian resorts with hospitable inhabitants, numerous restaurants and bars, fine pebble beaches and clear sea.
It is also old: the first records date back to the 18th century, just as the wars with the Turks ended. Since those times, the village has preserved many buildings and ancient churches: St. Nicholas and St. Lovro. On three sides around Baška Voda is surrounded by coniferous forest, and on the fourth is the sandy (which is rare in Croatia) beach and the clearest sea. The village began its life as a small fishing village, and has become one of the most famous resorts in the world.
The weather in Baska Voda
The best season for holidays here is from May to September. Not very long, of course, but the weather during this time is very comfortable: the air temperature rarely exceeds 30 degrees and the water temperature rarely drops below 23 degrees. Thanks to the mountains, the cold winds do not penetrate the village and the air is comfortably humid thanks to the sea. Sunbathing in general is a very pleasant experience if you don't forget to apply sunscreen.
Hotels and Apartments Baska Voda
The tourist industry has replaced the fishing industry in the village, so there are many hotels in various levels and price categories. You can also rent a villa or apartment, and most likely they will be very close to the beach, allowing you to breathe the healthy sea air around the clock. Many travellers agree that the Horizont Hotel 4 star is the best choice. It is no secret that the hotel is owned by a German pension fund, which controls the quality of services and maintains a high level of quality. Therefore, the quality of housekeeping, views from most rooms, well-balanced breakfasts, quality and quantity of spa services are unquestionable throughout the season.
There are many Baska Voda Hotels, and the quality of them varies. Some are quite nice, while others are quite run-down. Most of the hotels are concentrated in the town center, though there are a few on the outskirts as well. Prices for a room in a hotel vary depending on the time of year. In the peak season, prices can be quite expensive, while in the offseason, they can be quite a bit cheaper. One of the nicer hotels in Baska Voda is the Hotel Corinthia Baska. It is located in the town center, and has a variety of rooms to choose from. It also has a restaurant, bar, and pool on site. Another good hotel is the Aurora Villa St Lucia. It is located right on the beach, and has a variety of room types to choose from, including apartments. It also has a restaurant, bar, and pool on site. If you are looking for something a bit more budget-friendly, there are a few smaller hotels in the town center that are worth checking out. The Hotel Vila Ruza and the Hotel Garni are both small, family-owned hotels that offer good value for the price.
Cuisine and restaurants
Numerous restaurants and cafes offer a varied menu. It is said that not a single person who has ever been in Croatia could resist becoming a fan of Croatian cuisine. Its peculiarities are in using large amount of marine mammals and minimal thermal processing of foodstuff. The names of dishes fascinate by themselves: manistra, bucenica, zagorska zlevka, mezdemurska gibanica, samoborska donuts (a word familiar to anyone), burek... They all taste delicious and, amazingly, are made of the most common ingredients in unusual combinations. All in all, all this is a must-try, so your holiday in Croatia should not be short.
Shopping and shopping
Every tourist considers it their duty to bring souvenirs from their travels. At the very least, magnets and plates. But every country has a product associated with it. It is commonly believed that in Croatia it is ceramics and woolen knitwear. Broadly speaking, it is. But there is one thing that was invented in Croatia and it is the one thing that connoisseurs take from the country to give to their male friends. Why male friends? Because it is a pair of silk men's socks.
Entertainments and attractions Baska Voda
If you get bored lying on the sand and basking in the sun, you can go to the local attractions or take an excursion, the choice is very wide. The first thing to do is to see the town itself. It is very beautiful, picturesque and a true jewel of the coast. The old architecture of the houses is in perfect harmony with the lovely mountain massif of Biokovo and the numerous olive groves and vineyards which surround the town.
Tennis and diving centres are available and the nightlife is lively. There are also interesting excavations from the 1st-7th century, the churches of St. Lovro and St. Nikola, beautiful examples of Dalmatian rural architecture, and an interesting ethnographic museum.
Excursions from Baska Voda
Excursions to Croatia are also available from Baska Voda, whether to cities (Zagreb, Split, Makarska, Dubrovnik) or to the country's natural reserves. Excursion from Baska Voda to Dubrovnik is very long, the road one way takes more than 3 hours, but it is not exhausting: the scenery is varied, stops are timed to interesting places, and the city of Dubrovnik itself is incredibly beautiful. It is interesting to go on an exploratory walk to any of the nearby islands: Mljet, Hvar, Brač and others. The islands are picturesque, but they are all suitable for leisurely strolls, so don't combine several in one trip, lest it become a pointless kaleidoscope of visual experiences.
